Vermont’s Favorite Drinking Club with a Running Problem
Von Tramp Hash House Harriers (VTH3) is Vermont’s anti-running running club and the perfect excuse to get muddy on a Saturday. We are a social club for people who want to explore the state’s wooded romps and urban escapes without the pressure of a stopwatch. Whether you’re an amateur marathoner or a professional walker, we meet on the first and third Saturdays of the month to follow a trail of flour through the woods and streets.
As a kennel of the global Hash House Harriers, every trail ends with "The Circle” which is a ridiculous ceremony involving cold beverages, general merriment, and the kind of bad jokes you won't hear at a fancy Burlington cocktail bar. If you are looking for a genuine way to meet people in Vermont that involves fresh air and zero pretense, grab your old running shoes and join the pack.

FAQs
-
Von Tramp H3 is Vermont’s local chapter of a global community often called a “drinking club with a running problem.” We host social scavenger hunts (called trails) that weave through the woods of Waterbury or the streets of Burlington. A volunteer "Hare" marks a path with flour or chalk, and the "Pack" tries to track them down. Every trail contains beer, snacks, and songs. Since we started in 2021, we’ve been the perfect excuse to stay active and social in Vermont all year long.

Not at all. Hashing is about the social side, not your split times. Our trails are usually 3 to 6 miles long, and we almost always have a split path so walkers can take a shorter route. You are free to move at whatever speed feels right (and we often have dogs along for the ride too). Just keep in mind that we go out in all weather: if it’s a typical Vermont winter day, wear something waterproof on your feet and bring a change of socks for the bar afterwards.

If you are 21 or older, just show up to a trail. Your first time is always free, and we are a very welcoming group of lovable idiots. As for the names, you don’t choose your own hash name. You earn it after a few trails once the pack gets to know you. It is a badge of honor that usually comes with a great story (and probably a few bad jokes).
Life’s too short to take it too seriously.
So join us on trail and take a break from the ordinary.
